The exact length of Tran Van Hay’s hair wasn’t quite accurate but some estimates put it as long as 6.8 meters!
While the “man bun” looks to soon be a thing of the past, long hair on men will never go completely out of style. After all, not every man is blessed with a luxuriant mane, why not let those locks flow free? But then the question remains: how do you style it if you do?
Tran Van Hay from Vietnam easily tucks his long locks into a “basket” and keeps them under a scarf. The man from the southern city of Can Tho doesn’t wash his extremely long hair as it may take forever to do so. Hay began to let his hair grow more than 50 years ago because he often got sick after a haircut, the Vietnam News quoted his wife, Nguyen Thi Hoa, as saying.
Hay reportedly lived a simple life as an herbalist, but his hair could complicate things. Reports said no motorcycle taxi would carry him because he could wear a helmet, leaving him no choice but ride a bike instead.
The exact length of Tran Van Hay’s hair wasn’t quite accurate but some estimates put it as long as 6.meterses. The official world record for the longest hair is held by Xie Qiuping of China, whose hair was measured in 2004 at 5.6 meters long. If Hay’s hair was as long as it is claimed to be—or even as long as the 6.2 meters is was reported to have been measured at in 2006—it would have taken the record by a considerable distance.
Hay died at home in 2010 in the southern province of Kien Giang at the age of 79.
